Why can’t I disconnect and reconnect the fiber after spectrometer calibration?

Disconnecting the fiber, cosine corrector, or integrating sphere after spectrometer calibration will invalidate the calibration. Even if it is carefully reconnected, the exact light coupling won’t be replicated. Any changes to the optics or connections require a full system recalibration.  For best results, calibrate the system on location, just prior to measurement.

 

The fiber connections of systems calibrated on-site at Ocean Optics are sealed prior to calibration to help prevent accidental disconnection.
