Reflectance Measurement With Spectrometers
Reflectance is light incident on the surface of a material that is reflected at an interface. Smooth surfaces have high specular reflectance, where incident light reflects in the same direction. Rough or matte surfaces have diffuse reflectance, where incident light is scattered in all directions.
Use Ocean Optics Spectrometers for Reflectance Applications
Specular
- Color matching of finished goods
- QC of paints and coatings
- Solar panel materials testing
Diffuse
- Authentication and anti-counterfeiting
- Non-invasive measurement of fruits and grains
- Soil characterization
Reflectance Measurement Setup
Here’s a sample reflectance system that uses a probe as the sampling device. Dozens of diffuse and specular reflectance measurement configurations are possible with Ocean Optics spectrometers and accessories.
