For solids, reflectance and transmittance measurements are the primary techniques employed, although thin film measurement and laser-based technologies such as Raman analysis and LIBS are also effective.
With solid sampling accessories such as integrating spheres, filter holders and optical stages – plus reflection probes – users can evaluate both physical and chemical properties of solids. For example, with reflectance measurements, users can compare objects with different colors, textures or even thickness. Also, reflectance can offer information about the material form which the solid is made, since light that is not reflected from a sample is absorbed due to its chemical composition.
