LIBS is a powerful technique for rapid, real-time elemental analysis of a wide range of materials, from metal and gemological samples to chemical and biological agents. With LIBS, there is virtually no sample preparation necessary and detection sensitivity is possible to parts-per-million and parts-per-picogram levels. Systems can be configured for spectral analysis across all or part of the 200-980 nm range, with optical resolution of ~0.1 nm (FWHM).

Ocean Optics provides a set of modular tools for building customized LIBS systems. At the heart of this approach is our high-resolution HR2000+ optical bench and electronics, which can be configured with up to seven spectrometer channels as part of a LIBS2500plus system. To complete a basic setup, add a 200 mJ or 50 mJ laser to excite the sample and generate the plasma and one of our multi-fiber bundles to sample the plasma and connect to the spectrometer channels. An optional software package such as SpecLine is useful for identifying atomic emission lines and molecular bands in spectral data.

  • Broadband spectral analysis – elemental analysis from 200-980 nm
  • Versatile – ideal for materials analysis, environmental monitoring and more
  • High sensitivity – measurements to parts-per-picogram levels
